Faces of Medical Trauma

$75.00

This training equips therapists with the tools to assess and treat clients affected by medical trauma. Participants will interact with panelists who have experienced medical trauma as well as explore the neurobiological, psychological, and physiological impacts of medical trauma, as well as its significant effects on mental health. The training will also cover the comorbidity between medical trauma and mental health conditions like PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Attendees will learn how to integrate trauma-informed practices and evidence-based treatment modalities to address these complex intersections.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand medical trauma and its unique psychological, physiological, and behavioral symptoms, with attention to its impact on mental health.

  • Recognize the neurobiological impact of trauma on the brain and body, particularly how medical trauma contributes to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

  • Identify comorbid mental health conditions that frequently occur alongside medical trauma and learn to address these challenges in treatment.

  • Implement trauma-informed care principles in clinical and medical settings to create safe, supportive therapeutic environments.

  • Assess medical trauma using screening tools and clinical interviews tailored to understanding clients' medical histories, mental health, and trauma triggers.

  • Apply evidence-based treatment modalities including Somatic Experiencing, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and EMDR to treat medical trauma and associated mental health conditions.

  • Work with special populations, such as children, chronic illness patients, and medical professionals, by tailoring treatment to their specific needs and comorbid mental health concerns.

  • Develop practical skills through case studies, role-playing, and applying trauma-informed interventions in real-world scenarios.
